Mandron | "I'm feeling good"

Mika Mandron delighted to get off the mark after finding the net against Southend at Roots Hall.

Gills striker Mika Mandron was pleased to get his first goal since rejoining the club with his close range header at Roots Hall enough to ensure a 1-0 win at Southend on Saturday.

It was a tough test for Gillingham, who were forced to work hard for their victory. Mandron believed it was a good way to prepare them for the new season, as he felt he could have lasted the full 90 minutes.

His overall thoughts on the game…

It was a very good game. I thought that they caused us some problems in the first half, which we adjusted to, and were much better in the second half. Personally, I was happy because I played for about 70 minutes and felt great. I felt that I could have played for a bit longer, which is good. I also managed to get a goal, so it was perfect for me.

How he is feeling physically…

I’m feeling good. I thought that I could have played 90 minutes. This was as close to a league game as you’re going to get in pre-season, so I feel very confident, and I’m looking forward to next week.

I definitely have 90 minutes in me.

His thoughts on the goal that he scored…

It always feels great. I don’t care if it’s in training, a pre-season friendly or a league game. It always feels great. I wasn’t going to run away and slide or whatever, but it was good.

Scott did really well. He took the ball down the line, and because he was on the byline, I knew he was going to try and dink it. The ball arrived exactly where I wanted it to be, and I just had to put my head through it. It was easy!

What enticed him to come back to the club…

It helps when you know the place and you know where you’re going. I also knew a few of the boys. I think that the main attraction for me was the Gaffer. Knowing the level which he had played, and managed at, was the biggest selling point for me. With him being a striker, I’m looking forward to learning as much as possible.
