Latest signing Dominic Jefferies says he is counting down the days to make his debut for the Gills and insists he has the self-belief to make a real impact at ME7.
The exciting box-to-box midfielder, 20, scooped the Player of the Year award last season at Brentford B where he captained the side to victory in the 2022 London Senior Cup.
The Welsh-born youngster, who has previously turned out for Newport and Salisbury, now has his sights firmly set on a regular starting spot at the Gills, where he aims to further showcase his qualities.
“I can’t wait to get going,” said Jefferies. “I came down here last week to look at the facilities and to meet Neil. It was a no-brainer for me. I’m buzzing to get started and can’t wait for the season.
“I live in Wales, so it took about four hours to get here. It doesn’t bother me though; I don’t get homesick and I’m just happy to be here. I’m leaving Brentford with a heavy heart, it was my first year in a professional environment. They had Premier League facilities with high standards and everybody pushed each other every day. I learnt a lot in that year, more than I imagined to be honest.
“I worked to the best of my ability, always tried and did extra bits after training. I got my reward at the end of the season by getting the Player of the Year. They gave me a platform to play many games, 42 appearances, it’s the most games I’ve played in a season. I’ll miss the club and the coaches but it is time for a new challenge.
“For the fans at Gillingham who don’t know me, I always give 100 per cent effort. I have a good passing range and am aggressive in the tackle without being reckless. I’m excited to get going. I don’t stop training; I went to Greece with the missus and I was training twice a day. Now I can’t wait to get to work for the Gills.”
