Exclusive cookery lesson offered to students at the GFC School.
GFC students enjoyed an informative culinary experience at Smoqe which proved to be a very tasty educational treat. The chic Rochester restaurant which mixes rustic features and contemporary stylings became a place of learning for our pupils as kitchen became classroom.
The exclusive lesson offered an ideal opportunity to pick up professional insights and insider tips on creating amazing food as well as running a successful business. After providing a tour of the restaurant the chef, and owner John, constructed one of his mouth-watering artisan burgers whilst he spoke about flavour combinations and the importance of attention to detail.
Students also gained knowledge about the significance of using fresh ingredients, how to work out costings and also some customer service tips.
“We have to say a huge thank you to John and the staff at Smoqe,” said Pastoral Manager and organising GFC staff member Luke Medley. “We have a number of students who are working towards careers in food and hospitality, so this experience was invaluable. We have picked up a lot of skills today.”
The trip was a big success but surely the highlight was sampling the delicious bacon cheeseburger at the end, ensuring that the students, who arrived with smiles, left with even bigger ones!
