Cheye Alexander hoping midweek performance at Crawley can be replicated against Dagenham in the FA Cup.
The glamour of the FA Cup is dead? Try telling that to Gillingham defender Cheye Alexander.
The oldest cup competition in the world, which can pit non-league minnows against Champions League heavyweights, still holds a mystique for Alexander who very much enjoys the magic, fairytale runs and giant killings.
The Gills right-back is itching to create some of those folklore tales at MEMS Priestfield, but first the Kent side will need to negotiate themselves past Dagenham & Redbridge.
“There is no easy game in the FA Cup,” said Alexander speaking to the press ahead of the clash. “I know that from previous years. The FA Cup can bring crazy results and that’s the good thing about it.
"When I was at Barnet we drew 3-3 with Brentford and then we went to their place and only just lost. We put in an amazing performance and should have gone through. We had previously beaten Sheffield United. Those games were just amazing. Those are the moments that you will never forget.
“Hopefully we can make some of those memories for Gillingham this season. If we get a result on Saturday then you don’t know who you will get in the third round.
“We are aiming to win on Saturday and get through. In the cup you have to win and perhaps that is why we are showing that edge in our performances. We will go to Dagenham and perform the way we should. We are up for this.”
