Tough challenge awaits in the Carabao Cup, says Gills boss.
Gills boss Neil Harris is happy his team were in the hat for the second round of the FA Cup, and is now eager for his squad to enjoy the challenge of playing Brentford on Tuesday evening in the Carabao Cup.
Following Saturday's fixture at Mill Farm, he spoke to the local media.
Overall thoughts on the AFC Fylde result…
We turned the ball over cheaply in the second half, which means you have to run more, and it builds momentum for the opponent. We have to be better with the football. Kashy has a one-on-one and could score. We get into good areas, but we’re not creative enough again. Our problems are no different to what they’ve been.
They’re a good side. It’s a brilliant stadium and reminds me so much of Dartford. The pitch is fantastic, and they pay the players really well here. It’s a great setup. They’re expecting to get promoted this year, so we knew it was going to be a tough game. I’m fully respectful of the opponent and watched four of their games. They’re a very good side, and they showed that today [Saturday] in parts.
Looking towards Brentford…
It’s going to be a tough challenge, and we’re the underdog. All the expectation is on Brentford. The lads can go out and enjoy it.
It’s never a free hit because the players need to perform. We will enjoy going to Brentford and enjoy the challenge of trying to stop a top-ten Premier League side.
We want to win, and we will be picking a team accordingly and will try and pick a game plan to give us the best opportunity to win a game of football. We know that they’re going to be very good. They’ve built a fantastic football club over the last 15 years.
Injury update…
Both tight quads [for Olly Lee and Stuart O’Keefe]. Olly did it by striking balls in the warm-up, which is a bit bizarre. Stuey just tightened up in the second half.
We are light in the middle of the park, and we hope to get Ben Reeves and Shaun Williams back as soon as possible.
