Gills full-back eager to record three more points against Newport at ME7.
Cheye Alexander confirmed that he will be with Gills next season and says he can’t wait for the next campaign, but first he wants to finish this one with a bang.
Ahead of the final home game of the season against Newport the experienced right-back insists the team want nothing less than maximum points.
“We are going for three points,” said Alexander ahead of the Sky Bet League Two fixture. “Hopefully it will be a full house here and we can go out, put in a good performance and finish the season off in a good manner.
“We have had a great back end to the season and we want to continue that and take it into the next campaign. As a team, the feeling around the camp is amazing.
“If you go out on the pitch and work hard you keep your shirt and thankfully I have kept it. I’m definitely here next year and I am looking forward to getting going again. I’ve earned the shirt and stayed in the team which has triggered my contract renewal. It’s going to be a huge year for Gillingham, massive. We are going in the right direction.
“Whoever comes here, whether they are at the top, middle or bottom, it will be a difficult game for them; we can compete with anyone.
“We want to finish the season well. Newport are a good team, they have had their ups and downs but it is not going to be an easy game. We need to keep performing the way we have and take care of business.
“This is another game to get three points and keep that momentum going. We are going to work as hard as possible to get the result. We want to get three points and to finish the season strong. We want to get the win to send the fans home happy for next year.”
