Hawkins | "We thoroughly deserved a point"

Striker Oli Hawkins reflects on Saturday's dramatic 2-2 draw at Bradford.

Oli Hawkins' dramatic late equaliser caused euphoria in the away end as the Gills put on a classy display against high-flying Bradford at Valley Parade on Saturday.

Both teams fought hard and created opportunities to pinch all three points but Hawkins' 97th-minute close-range leveller meant the rewards were equally shared.

"We thoroughly deserved a point in the end and maybe could have had three," reflected Hawkins after the action-packed 2-2 draw at the University of Bradford Stadium.

"The first-half was one of the best I have seen us play. We were organised and could have been two or three up. We really dominated that first 20 to 30 minutes.

"We battled hard in the second-half, we are capable with the squad we have of mixing it with the best teams.

"I just wanted to get in front of the defender and make contact with the ball and hope it goes in. Luckily I made good enough contact to do that. I'm delighted it was the equaliser and we were able to get a point from it.

"We have such brilliant away support. It was fantastic for them to come all this way and I was just buzzing that we were able to give them something.

"We want to win every game we play in and grab all the points that we can. We have two tough games in Newport and Salford coming up but we will look to win both of them."
