Shaun Williams named Club Captain

Neil Harris has announced that Shaun Williams will be the club's new Captain.

Shaun Williams has been named as the Gills new Club Captain for the 2023/24 Sky Bet League 2 season.

Manager Neil Harris confirmed his choice in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, with Max Ehmer taking on the role of Vice-Captain.

Williams, 36, joined the club last summer and scored three goals in 47 appearances in all competitions. One of his goals was a last minute stunner against Carlisle United who went on to win promotion via the play-offs.

Williams is a former Republic of Ireland international and played under Neil Harris at Millwall, winning promotion to the Championship in 2017.

On being named Captain, Shaun said: "It's a privilege and an honour and it's something that me and my family appreciate.

"Leading by example, setting high standards and setting expectations of myself and my teammates."

Neil Harris added: "Shaun is a top pro, his experience speaks for itself. He knows me better than anybody else in the group, he knows how to read me as a person which I think is important.

"He is a leader by example and a leader by doing."
