Dom Jefferies delighted as his second half goal at Hartlepool gives Gills a crucial win.
Gillingham have taken their first small steps to dragging themselves off the foot of the table according to Saturday’s match winner Dom Jefferies.
The energetic midfielder, who scored his first professional goal in spectacular fashion, said the impressive 2-0 victory over Hartlepool is just the beginning as the ME7 revolution picks up pace.
“It felt unreal at the final whistle,” admitted Jefferies. “We were much more of a team today. We played like a team and we got what we deserved.
“There’s no hiding it, we haven’t been good enough up until now. The two new boys up front have come in and helped us a lot. Everyone is buzzing, everyone is happy around the training ground, we can build on this.”
American benefactors buying a team at the bottom of the league to turn around their fortunes might sound like the script of a heart-warming sports comedy from Hollywood, but that is the reality in Gillingham. Brad and Shannon Galinson have come in and instantly started delivering on their promises to improve the struggling side, and Jefferies is loving it.
“They have brought a positive energy to everyone,” enthused the midfielder. “The gaffer is buzzing, the players are buzzing, the people who are coming in are happy to be here. We can enjoy training and games and I think the results will start to fall into place now we have all this.
“With high quality players coming in the training standards, the games, everything just rises a bit and we can build.
“The fans have been brilliant, following us up and down the country, even when results haven’t gone our way. They deserved this and we want to give them something to celebrate.”
