Stuart O'Keefe says the squad will embrace the challenge when former Premier League Champions Leicester come to Priestfield.
Gills captain Stuart O’Keefe knows it will be a tough ask to beat a team who have won the Premier League and an FA Cup in recent history, but isn’t that what the FA Cup is all about? Springing the odd surprise?
Live on the BBC, a sold-out stadium, and the odds massively against Gillingham: the stage is set.
Ahead of taking on Leicester City in one of the picks of the third round fixtures, O’Keefe faced the media.
“We are going to enjoy the occasion,” he said. “We are going to enjoy the game and see where it takes us.
“We need to work hard, dig in, stay in the game and with a little bit of luck here and there, who knows?
“We are going to relish the challenge. They have a wealth of experience and quality and whoever they put out on the pitch will be excellent and we look forward to coming up against them.
“We have already had a couple of Premier League opposition in the cups so it will be another nice one in front of the home crowd. Priestfield will be packed and that will make a huge difference.
“If we can get a result or earn a replay that would be fantastic. Hopefully they will have an off-day and we can cause an upset. We have to believe in ourselves.”
