Championship club to visit ME7 in Carabao Cup first round.
Gillingham will welcome Southampton to Priestfield in the opening round of the 2023/24 Carabao Cup.
The draw was made live on Sky Sports on Thursday afternoon, with Gills having also learned their league fixtures and EFL Trophy opponents.
Southampton have just named Russell Martin as their new manager having been relegated to the Championship in May. They will play Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the new season.
Neil Harris' men reached the fourth round of the competition in 2022/23, defeating Premier League side Brentford along the way. However, Wolves eventually prevailed at Molineux following a fine performance from the visitors.
The fixture against the Saints will be played week commencing August 7. Ticket information, and a confirmed date for the game, will be released in due course.
