Gaffer gets his man as Clark signs Gills deal.
Neil Harris has finally got his man, even if it was six seasons in the making.
Max Clark first appeared on Harris' radar in 2018 when the Gills boss was in charge of Championship side Millwall. The sought-after left-back, however, ended up moving to the Netherlands where he enjoyed three seasons at Vitesse in the Netherlands' highest division.
After excelling in a promotion-winning campaign at Stevenage last season, where Clark made 47 appearances, the opportunity to sign the talented defender once again presented itself and this time Harris finally got the player who he describes as 'high calibre'.
"I'm delighted with this one", admitted the Gills boss. "Max is a promotion-winning player from last season, which shows his pedigree and his calibre. He is a boy that I have tried to sign in the past, I tried to take him to play in the Championship and he went abroad.
"He is a left-back who can defend and he has unbelievable quality on the football. He's got ball-playing ability, crosses well into the box and takes set-pieces as well.
"He is a really good character and comes highly recommended. We are looking to sign winners, players who have achieved in their careers. We have just signed Jonny Williams who has played in a semi-final of a major tournament and has won promotions at the highest levels.
"Now we are talking about Max Clark who was successful last season and has been successful enough to move abroad. We are talking about high calibre players."
