Lapslie | "The game could have gone either way"

George Lapslie was on media duties following the Bristol Street Motors Trophy defeat to Fulham U21.

Gillingham were unlucky to exit the Bristol Street Motors Trophy after falling to a 1-0 defeat against Fulham U21s in a tight fixture under the Priestfield lights.

Gills new boss Stephen Clemence made 10 changes from the FA Cup win over Hereford, and Lapslie believes there were plenty of positives against the young Cottagers, despite the result.

"The game could have gone either way," said the midfielder. "There were chances for both sides. There are points that we can improve but there are a lot of positives.

"I'm trying to get back to match sharpness, I have had a lot of stop starts this season. I am now ready to crack on.

"I've had one training session with the new manager and it's great, everyone had a smile on their face. When you are somewhere where you enjoy coming in then you will get the best out of your players. All the lads are buzzing.

"We have come through this game unscathed and we are now ready to go this weekend, we will attack Wrexham, simple as that. We will be looking to win, that is 100 percent sure. We want to go home with three points."
