Gillingham v AFC Wimbledon

Sky Bet League Two

Priestfield

Tuesday 28th November

Kick-Off: 19:45

Team News:

There were no fresh injury concerns following the defeat away to Tranmere Rovers this past weekend.

Oli Hawkins continues to work on his fitness following a lengthy spell out of contention with a recurring and ongoing heel injury. The forward man will continue to be assessed by Stephen Clemence’s staff ahead of the match.

Robbie McKenzie could potentially make a return to the squad having missed out on selection for Tranmere due to fitness. Ashley Nadesan missed the trip to Tranmere too but could feature under the lights.

As for the visitors, Manager Johnnie Jackson will have a fully fit squad available to him for the trip to Priestfield. Defender Huseyin Biler and forward Omar Bugiel will be available, having served one match suspensions during their recent 4-2 win over Notts County. Harry Pell could also make a return this evening, having made a return to training following injury.

Manager Comments:

Stephen Clemence: “I have said to the boys, I need to see a reaction, the supporters will want to see a reaction and I will be demanding that as well.

“Far too many times this season we win a game and then we lose one, now we need to start finding a bit of consistency and we will but it will take time.

“Sometimes you get results which you don’t see coming and in that first half (at Tranmere) I didn’t see that coming, but we have another game and we will be looking to put it right.”

Johnnie Jackson: "I know him [Stephen Clemence] well; he was a bit older than me at Spurs. He was someone I looked up to as a left-footed midfield player. We’ve kept in touch down the years - so it’ll be great to see him."

Previous Meeting:

We last faced AFC Wimbledon when we welcomed them to Priestfield in February of this year, the two sides meeting in the 22/23 Sky Bet League Two campaign for the second time.

A closely matched first-half saw the game remain goalless at the break.

After the interval, both sides emerged from the dressing rooms looking to take control of what had been a tight game until that point.

Wimbledon took the lead with 52 minutes played.

A great solo effort from Ali Al-Hamadi put the visitors in control and looking to turn the screw.

The Gills responded in the best way possible soon after.

Two goals in quick succession from Max Ehmer and Cheye Alexander turned the tables on AFC Wimbledon, who were ultimately unable to come back against their resilient hosts at Priestfield.

Head-to-Head:

Gillingham – 5

Draw – 6

AFC Wimbledon – 8

The Gills, statistically, have had difficulties when facing tonight’s opponent across all previous meetings. AFC Wimbledon (in its current form) have taken eight wins from 18 past matches when facing the Gills.

Gillingham have triumphed on four occasions in league competition, whilst also claiming a win when the two sides faced each other in the EFL Cup last term.
