Keith Millen congratulates Gills defender on St Lucia call-up.
Cheye Alexander will miss Gillingham’s visit to Walsall this weekend as he makes his bow for the Saint Lucia National Team.
The no-nonsense attack-minded defender has impressed for the Gills this season and his reward is a trip to the Caribbean, although it will be strictly business in his tropical surroundings. Cheye and his teammates will play a Concacaf Nations League game on Friday when they face Guadeloupe, they will then face the same side away from home on Sunday.
“Hopefully he plays and does well,” said Gillingham’s interim-manager Keith Millen. “And hopefully he will be back after the weekend and be fit for Monday.
“You would never want to stop a player playing for their country. When he told me which country he was representing I said I would go with him, if he wants. It’s not the worst place to go, is it?
“It is an international game so it is a very proud moment for him, we all want him to do well.”
Everyone at the Club wishes Cheye all the very best in both fixtures.
