Ethan Coleman says the Gills squad will only get better over time.
Ethan Coleman spoke to the media after assisting both goals in his man of the match performance against Morecambe on Saturday, helping Gillingham seal another three points at Priestfield.
George Lapslie and Connor Mahoney bagged the goals in an entertaining encounter at ME7.
Ethan Coleman warned that despite the team’s outstanding performance in the opening 45 minutes, Neil Harris’s team will continue to improve and look to be more ruthless in front of goal as the season rolls on.
Beating Morecambe:
“I enjoyed it; we are buzzing to get the win.
"I think that’s one of our best performances so far this season, there’s still a lot to work on but I think the team were really good today.
“We created a lot of chances in that first half, we kept the ball well and got the two goals, but I think we could have gone for the throat a bit more in the second.
“We’ve kept clean sheets well this season, so we we’re disappointed in how we conceded the equaliser. We’ll obviously look at that in training and make sure we keep on improving in defence.
“When we’re creating chances like we were, we need to make sure we kill off teams quicker and be a bit more ruthless. We’ll keep getting better.”
Returning from suspension:
“It’s been really tough. It’s been so frustrating sitting there on the side-lines, watching on when you’re not injured and could be playing.
“For me, I didn’t think it was a red card in the first place, but of course I’m going to say that. I’m just pleased to be back and have been able to help the team."
Being top of the table:
“Yeah of course it’s great to in the position we are, but there’s still so many games to play yet. We’ve just got to keep picking up points.
“This team isn’t getting carried away at all.
"We try and keep the same mentality and mindset that regardless of if we win, lose or draw, we need to just keep working hard and improving as a team across the pitch.
“Maybe I have a look at the table every now and then, but we’ll see where we are at the end of the season."
Gills fans:
“They’re brilliant. It was a great atmosphere today and we’ll need that as the season plays out.
“Shooting towards the Rainham End, you kind of want to say that it doesn’t make a difference which way we’re playing in each half, but it does!
“There’s always a massive crowd in there and it obviously helps the team to have them behind us. I enjoy playing towards the fans.”
