Masterson | "I am delighted to win the award"

Defender thankful to the supporters after being named "Player of the Year."

Conor Masterson picked up Gillingham's Player of the Year Award and said he is now dreaming of a bigger prize next year, the league title.

The defender has been an absolute rock throughout this campaign and he is strongly of the opinion that if Gills add a few finishing touches to the squad then they will be fighting for the ultimate prize.

Masterson, clearly delighted with his award, thanked fans for their support and told them he plans to come back stronger next season, and he is predicting big things.

"I was delighted to win this award and I appreciate all the support from the fans," he said. "This club has been a home to me and I feel really settled here. Thanks to everyone who voted. I really appreciate the support of the fans and the people around me and  also my family and friends who have come to see me.

"I have the trophy on the mantelpiece and me and the missus look at it every day when we are watching TV. It's my first time to win a Player of the Season, so I am buzzing.

"It's been a successful season for me personally. I have played a lot of games, scored goals and got clean sheets. It has been a positive season for me, but I would change all of that to get promoted.

"I believe that if we add a few additions to this squad then we will be right up there. Add 25 more goals, it won't be the play-offs we will be aiming for, it will be the title.

"We want to channel our disappointment into next season. We are all hungry now. We want to put things right, starting this Saturday against Doncaster.

"We want to finish on a high and then be ready for next season, because I believe it will be one to remember."
