The Gills take on an old foe at Priestfield on Tuesday night, as Stephen Clemence leads the men from ME7 into what is sure to be a fiery encounter under the lights in the late kick-off against Swindon.

Having put themselves back in the hunt for a Play-Off place with an impressive win at Meadow Lane this past Friday evening, The Head Coach and his squad will be hoping the home support against Swindon Town can give them the edge required to seal back-to-back league wins.

Team News:

There were no new injury concerns for Stephen Clemence following the 1-3 win away to Notts County on Friday evening.

Dom Jefferies continues to work on his recovery from a thigh injury and will remain out of the squad for several weeks yet. Josh Andrews will likely also remain out of action for the visit of Swindon, as the newly acquired forward edges closer to recovery from a hip injury and making his Gills debut.

Josh Walker could partner Oli Hawkins up front.

As for Swindon, they have no fresh injury or suspension concerns ahead of the game. They drew at home to Salford on Saturday.

Manager Comments:

Stephen Clemence: “When you go away and get a big win as we have, it’s important to back that up in the next one at home. If you do that enough times throughout the season, you’ll see yourself fly up the table.

“There’s a rivalry there with Swindon.

"I’m not sure when it goes back to, but I’ve certainly heard about it. I know the supporters will be passionate about it and I can assure them the players will be too.

“We’ll be going out there to win. It will be a tough game; I think they’ve changed their system in the last couple of games with the new manager."

Gavin Gunning: “It will be a tough game, they’re in form. They’ve just beaten Notts 1-3 away, so we know it will be a difficult game.

“They’re very strong at set pieces, obviously they have Remeao there who offers fantastic deliveries from the right side. There’s a lot of experience in their team too.

“We want to be winning our games, not settling for draws. We have to go there and implement our style. We’ll be trying to win."

Previous Meeting:

Gills travelled to The County Ground back in October 2023 in the reverse fixture of the current Sky Bet League Two campaign.

A solo effort from Connor Mahoney in the 22nd minute was enough for Gillingham to take all three points back to Kent on the night. Despite Swindon dominating possession throughout the game and having a number of chances to find an equaliser, The Gills backline ultimately proved unbreachable for the Wiltshire side.

Head-to-Head:

Gillingham – 35

Draw – 32

Swindon Town – 36

A total of 103 meetings since our first match with Swindon, back in the 1920/21 Old Division 3, sees the teams come into this encounter with an almost equal record.

Gillingham have notched a single additional win in league competition, but Swindon’s superior record in cup competition, means that the visitors can claim an additional win overall.
