Stephen Clemence reacts to the 1-1 draw with Forest Green at Priestfield.
Gills boss Stephen Clemence was left frustrated following his team's 1-1 draw at home to Forest Green on Saturday.
Oli Hawkins scored his first goal of the season to give the Gills the lead after the hour before the visitors struck back against the run of play eight minutes later. However, Forest Green finished the game the brighter of the two sides and had several chances to take the lead.
The Gillingham Head Coach believed that recent high standards were not met - something he wants to quickly rectify.
New signing Remeao Hutton made his debut for the club, and Clemence was happy with what he saw.
Not meeting the standards...
I am very disappointed with the result. I felt that we fell below the standards that we have set recently. Those standards have been very high. Today, I felt that there was an edginess about us, and obviously, we all have to look at ourselves. That is me included.
We will have a reset and come back on Monday and go again. I am disappointed. I know that we can do a lot better than that, and we did not bring that today.
Thoughts on the game...
You get the goal from a set play, and I felt that we could go on to get the second. To get that sucker punch was disappointing, but we could have gone on to lose the game, which would have been a real kick in the teeth.
Remeao Hutton's debut...
I think that we saw balls coming into the box. He has got that athleticism, and I thought he linked up well with Connor [Mahoney] at times. It is never easy making your debut. I am sure that he would have liked to have been on the end of a winning result, but it was not meant to be.
