Clemence | "It's down to us to react"

Team determined to get back to winning ways, says Gills Head Coach.

A sickness bug has swept through the Gills changing room ahead of this weekend's clash with Grimsby, but  Stephen Clemence says whoever is chosen to play on Saturday will be giving it everything they've got.

Six players and two staff members have been struck down with the unexpected virus but Clemence sees it as the perfect chance for his available players to show what they are made of.

"I woke up this morning and, I've got to be honest, there are a number of players who have reported sick," said Clemence. "There are more sicknesses then I have encountered before so we did actually cancel training today because we have a couple of staff missing too.

"We are hoping this is a 24-hour sickness bug and we hope they will report okay tomorrow (Friday). It's been an unusual day. We couldn't have the other players in because they could all be carriers and we don't want it to spread further.

"We will be training on the pitch tomorrow and will be doing some work out there. At the minute our concern is that the players affected get well and report to training tomorrow.

"Sometimes you get dealt a hand and you have to find solutions. I was very disappointed with the result on Tuesday. It was a disappointing week. It's down to us to react and go and get the victory. We want to get back to winning ways.

"I never set out for a draw. I am well aware of the problems and I will do my best to sort them going forwards. There are eight games to go, we are two points off the play-offs. The season is not done.

"One thing is for sure, the boys will be rolling their sleeves up, I can assure the fans of that. We will be giving it a right good go against Grimsby. It is down to us to take our game to them.

"The players have got to step up in front of our home supporters."
