Stephen Clemence was proud of his players as Gills came from behind twice to defeat Morecambe at the Mazuma Stadium.
Gills Head Coach Stephen Clemence was delighted for his side after their 3-2 win at Morecambe.
Having fallen behind twice in the game, Clemence was glad that the team could dig deep to battle back and win all three points.
Josh Andrews came off the bench to make his Gillingham debut, causing Morecambe problems during his stint in the game.
The win sets up a dramatic final six fixtures, heading into what will be a crucial Easter weekend.
Thoughts on the win...
It's nice to be able to come back and win. It's exciting. For Tim [Dieng] to score that goal to get us back in it, and I was getting ready to make some subs, and then that changes it again. Then Connor scores a nice goal at the end, so it is really pleasing.
I am pleased that we scored three goals. The boys deserve it. They have created a lot in games recently and probably haven't had the luck that they deserve. When the ball doesn't go in the back of the net, you get criticism, and confidence can dip. Hopefully, that settles everyone down today.
Learning from mistakes...
There are mistakes in every goal, and they happen. People don't mean to make them. You have to learn from them. You cannot make the same mistake twice. If you keep making the same mistakes, then that's a problem. That's what I always say to the boys.
Thankfully, after making those mistakes, the other lads dug them out and went and got three goals, which enabled us to win the football match. I am really pleased for everyone. I am pleased for the players in particular, because they have kept going over these last few weeks when they have had some difficult results. They deserve that today.
On getting Josh Andrews on the pitch...
It was great to have him out there. To sign someone in January, and that's his first 15 or 20 minutes. I couldn't give him more than 20 minutes today because you do not want to risk him getting injured. I have to listen to the medical people and sports scientists around me, and I felt that was his limit today.
You could see when he came on that he covers the ground quite well and gets around the pitch. He is a handful and brings people into play. He is going to be a good player for the Football Club.
The travelling support...
I thought the fans were fantastic. What did we have? 210 fans here today. They were just over my right shoulder, and I could hear them all afternoon. I wish them all a safe journey back, and thankfully, they have all got smiles on their faces today.
Heading into the Easter period...
It is a crucial period. It always is. We have a group of players and a squad that will be right up for it, and they can all contribute. The squad might be needed in these two games that come quickly. Everyone has to be ready to go.
