Lapslie | "It was a frustrating afternoon"

Grimsby draw was frustrating, but plenty of positives to take says Gills midfielder.

George Lapslie said although the entire group were disappointed not to beat Grimsby at Priestfield on Sautrday, he feels the players must take positives from the performance.

Lapslie grabbed the equalising goal for Gills, only a couple of minutes after the visitors had gone ahead through Donovan Wilson with 13 minutes on the clock.

The home side enjoyed sixty percent possession and had the better of the chances throughout the 90 minutes, but once again, it was that clinical edge that was missing from an otherwise strong performance in front of the Priestfield support.

On the team performance:

“We’re disappointed not to take all three points.

"We can take a lot of positives from that performance; we’ve created a lot more chances than usual. It is what it is now though, we go again.”

On the illness within the squad:

“We didn’t actually train on Thursday as so many of the team had it, so just one training session between Wimbledon and Grimsby to be ready.

“We just had to go out there and fight, I think we did that. It was a frustrating afternoon.

"You’re out there seeing the clock tick down, we just tried to keep moving the ball forward. We were constantly attacking; I can’t really remember them having too many.”

On the Play-Off fight:

“Obviously we wanted to win today, but it’s not the worst point in the world especially as the teams around us dropped points.

“We just have to keep going. We’ll go to Morecambe and fight for three points there.”
