Mark Bonner gave his post-match thoughts following Gillingham's 2-0 defeat to Blackpool in the First Round of the Emirates FA Cup.
The Performance...
I really liked the effort of the players, the intent that we played with and the speed that we generated at times in the second-half. We found more forward passes, more through passes, more combination play in our game but there are still moments in the game where we are too slow and don't find a forward pass or through pass and end up with the goalkeeper too often, and disconnect ourselves by playing big.
We have to keep trying to hold onto the best bits and keep showing them the bits that we need to improve as we try and find a formula.
I thought there were some good performances.
I liked Wakey's [Jacob Wakeling's] energy. I thought that he had some good moments in the game, but couldn't quite find the spark in his last bit in a couple of moments, but caused them problems.
We got Jayden [Clarke] higher up the pitch in the second-half, so we had more of a threat. There was more in that game for him I think than what we saw today.
Armani Little ran his socks off and had some good moments. I thought that Euan Williams was very good. He controlled the game for us and got lots of the ball.
Looking ahead...
Today is one where we have lost the game against a decent side in League One, and we have been really competitive in the game. We haven't done quite enough to get through which would have been lovely for us all, but that's where we are. We have to work our way into Port Vale for what will be a really challenging game next week as well.
