Gillingham manager Mark Bonner gave his thoughts to the local media following Gillingham's 2-1 defeat against Bromley at Hayes Lane on Wednesday night.
Thoughts on the game...
I thought that we started the match quite well. We had a good threat down the left-hand side. Jayden [Clarke] caused them a lot of problems during the first-half. Nev [Elliott Nevitt] has a good chance in the first half one-on-one, Jayden's had a good chance at the back post in the second-half, and Wakey [Jacob Wakeling] had a bit of a chance towards the end at the back post.
The first goal is a gift. An absolute gift. We gave them the ball back with a slow pass, and there wasn't enough tempo in our game, or risk. People not really finding the ball or creating tempo in the game.
We get back in the game because Nev works his space quite well, and Robbie [McKenzie] just injects a bit of tempo and runs, and it's unbelievable what can happen when you do that.
We didn't bring anywhere near enough quality in so many moments. You think about the number of times we kicked the ball off the pitch, crossed it into the goalkeeper's hands, or served kicks onto Sowunmi's head. You just have to think - 'Come on. We have got to be better than that. Miles better than that.'
We didn't deserve to win the game. We didn't deserve a point from the game. We had three chances to clear the second goal and didn't. They're just soft goals.
Emotions...
I'm probably sick of seeing and saying the same things, really. Similar to everybody else who is watching us at the moment. It's a bit of rinse and repeat, and that's us after ten days of grafting and trying to put ourselves in a position to be better than that. It's just so far away from the team we should be, or the team people think we can be.
It's just absolutely miles away from what good looks like at the minute.
