Gillingham manager Mark Bonner said his side didn't do enough to get a result from Tuesday's game at home to Newport.
County were two-nil up before half-time and, although Gills dominated possession following the interval, they were unable to find a way back.
Speaking after the game, Mark said: "The overall performance should have been good enough to get us a result in the game, but we haven't done enough and we've given them too many chances, as limited as they were, to make them count.
"They have been a lot more ruthless than we were and then you give them huge encouragement to defend the box as they did, and they made some brilliant blocks off one or two chances in the second-half.
"On the one hand you can look at the statistics and say 'that was our most dominant performance of the season', but it's not something you can talk about tonight. It doesn't really matter.
"We shouldn't lose the game and we do. We have got ourselves to blame for that."
