Coleman | "My overall feeling is disappointment"

Coley

Gillingham manager John Coleman was disappointed that his side could not come away with all three points following their goalless draw with Walsall at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Coleman praised goalkeeper Glenn Morris for his man of the match performance after he made three fine first half saves to keep the game scoreless.

Elliott Nevitt had Gillingham's best opportunity during the second half, which the Gills boss discussed.

Discussing the game...

I am disappointed with us in the first half. We started quite brightly on the front foot. We forced a free-kick, which was a good save from the keeper, and then we were too ponderous passing it around the back, letting them drop back into shape quite easily.

We didn't quicken the pace up or open up the opportunities to break the lines, which I thought was disappointing. The double save by Glenn [Morris] was world-class. Then, there was another great save from a header.

The lads got a bit of a talking to at half-time, trying to wake them up, and I think that we improved in the second half. Not dramatically, but we made more chances. My overall feeling is disappointment that there was an opportunity to go and stake a claim to go and beat top of the league. In the end, we didn't.

We finished quite strongly until the last couple of minutes, where they had the ball in our box from throw-ins and a corner and free-kick, which we stood up to well.

On Glenn Morris...

I thought that Glenn's overall command of the game was very good. I think that's probably his fifth clean sheet in about seven or eight games.

He's a great character, Glenn. He's someone that you want in the dressing room. He's level-headed. He's a humble fella and a really nice person, as well as being a very good goalkeeper. If he keeps playing like that, he has a lot more games in him.

He's a very good goalkeeper. When you get to work with him you can see the influence that he can have. He's calm, and makes the right decision most of the time, which is a good trait to have. He doesn't panic, and he's a good person to be around.

The Elliott Nevitt chance.. .

I think that he just got pulled back by the defender as well. I thought that it was going to be a penalty because I thought the lad was going to foul him. He has done well to get his foot on it. It was a great ball by Jacob [Wakeling].

When things are going for you, they go in. The keeper dives past the ball, and the ball goes into the middle of the goal.

You never see him shirking, and he ran himself into the ground.
