Ethan Coleman says as much as it would be nice to have a game this weekend, he says the break in fixtures will give the group time to reset as a busy festive season approaches.
Gills followed up their win over Port Vale with a penalty shootout victory over Stevenage in midweek, but Coleman hopes the mini break will give some players the opportunity to recover from their respective injuries.
He said: “I thought the first-half was good, we played well in spells. In the second-half we created a few chances to potentially win the game.
“In the last twenty minutes I’d say it got a bit open and scrappy, as you would expect with us going to win the game. We did well.
“The Port Vale win was massive, we needed that win under our belts, especially after Swindon.
“We have come out the other side and now we can really push on.
“Because we have so many injuries – Nev, Dacky, Litts and Hawks, it’s a time for us to really reset again, go again, and push on. As much as you probably want a game this weekend because we are getting the momentum back, we can reset and get a good training week in.
“It’s ten days until Harrogate, we are looking forward to it and wanting to build momentum. We have a big day on Friday to get some fitness done.”
Josh Andrews made a return to the team and found the back of the net at the Lamex Stadium, and Coleman said it is great for the club to see him back on the field.
He added: “He is a big player for us and for him to have been out as long as he’s been out has been tough for him and the team, but he’s a very good player, a target man, but he can also run in behind.
“He scored a great goal and showed what he can do – we are pleased to have him back.”
