Gillingham manager John Coleman spoke with the media after the 3-1 defeat at Newport County on Tuesday night.
Discussing the game...
Firstly, I’d like to apologise to the travelling fans for the result.
It was naïve defending from us in the first half. I could see after three minutes that it was too wide open. We were too wide open, and they were too wide open. It was like a basketball game from the first three minutes.
We tried to go with an attacking formation. Maybe I have gone too gung-ho in my approach to the game, full stop. I have to take responsibility for that. I was trying to get the information on to tighten up.
Ultimately, one man has made a difference in Bobby Kamwa for them. He had his big moments, and they resulted in goals.
Overall, my assessment is that I am disappointed because it was a game that we could have won. Ultimately, we have been responsible for our own defeat.
I've come here to win. I've made no secret of that. I'm not going to lie and say that I am going to go to any places away from home and try and draw. I am going to try and win games of football. We came here to try and win tonight. There were a couple of moments of really good play by them that ultimately undone us and a couple of basic errors.
