Sam Gale was left frustrated after having had what would have been his first professional EFL goal ruled out in Gillingham's 1-1 draw with Cheltenham Town on Good Friday, however he was pleased to obtain a solid point on the road.
His first-half goal was disallowed for what the referee believed to have been a handball by the defender. However, it appeared the ball had come off the arm of a Cheltenham player, chalking off Sam's effort.
Taite Holtam made his second start in goal for the Football Club in the fixture. Holtam also came through the Gills academy, and Gale was proud of his efforts.
There was a moment of panic when Holtam went down after a collision when punching a cross away. Gale discussed who may have gone between the sticks had the Gills goalkeeper been unable to continue.
732 Gillingham supporters made the Good Friday trip to Gloucestershire. The 20-year-old was impressed with their fantastic efforts and how their support pushed the team on during the game.
Thoughts on the game...
I thought that it was a good away performance in the end. We dug in for large periods. The conditions made it difficult, and they pressed us high. The wind was blowing the ball about, so it wasn't easy to get out, and we would have liked to have come away with three points, but we will take a point on the road. It's still unbeaten, a lot of draws, but still unbeaten.
On his disallowed goal...
I think that we have taken a quick free-kick, and it has ended up with Clarky [Max Clark], who has chopped it back and crossed it. I think that Nev [Elliott Nevitt] has gone up with the goalkeeper and has flicked it on, and my eyes have lit up. I think that there is no way that I can't put this in.
I have put it in with my body. I feel robbed. I am not happy about it, and I was raging at half-time when coming in. I had to just forget about it, as there was still a long way left in the game to try and get three points. We didn't quite get it, but I was pleased with my overall performance.
I have watched it back about five times, and I have just been shown a photo where it's their player's hand, and then I bundle it in.
It has robbed me of my first professional goal, but it will come eventually.
Taite Holtam's performance...
He took a massive whack at one point, which I thought his shoulder might be done, but he has carried on. I am sure he has got a big old bruise. He looked really assured, really calm and really confident. As a back three, we trust him. I am really proud of him, and he has done really well in both games, so it has been really good.
He is filling in for Glenn [Morris] while he is out excellently, so I am really proud of him.
Who would have played in goal had Holtam been unable to continue?
Do you know what? Nev loves going in goal before training, so it probably would have been Nev. He probably would have relished it, but I can't say that I was looking forward to that! It's a good thing that Taite was okay.
Praising the supporters...
It's incredible. They pay their hard-earned money yet again, travelling all over the country, especially with the way the world is right now. Not everyone has got a lot of money to pay their hard-earned cash to come here, and they will be there in their numbers on Monday; I am sure they will be there for Port Vale for the last away game of the season. It's incredible.
We could hear them more than the Cheltenham fans, which is a credit to them. They push us on, and we are going to need them for the end of this season and certainly next season.
