Gillingham have added to their defensive options with the capture of Andy Smith on loan from Hull City until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old came through the youth system at the MKM Stadium and made his professional debut in January 2021 in an EFL Trophy tie at home to Fleetwood.

His first loan spell away from Hull was with Salford at the start of the 2021/22 season. Andy made four appearances before returning to his parent club, and soon after that he was on the move once more, this time to Grimsby.

He rejoined the Mariners in 2022/23 on a season-long loan and made 47 appearances in total, scoring three times.

During the latter stages of the 2023/24 campaign Smith signed for Cheltenham on loan and featured on 12 occasions.

Smith could make his Gills debut away to Barrow this coming Saturday.

On joining the Gills, Andy said: "I am delighted, once I knew there was interest it was something I wanted to be a part of. I am here to work hard and play as many games as I can.

"I like to be aggressive, on the front foot, and I'll do everything for the boys around me and for the club."

An interview with the player will be available shortly.
