Masterson | "We have to take the positives"

Masterson 1

Conor Masterson says that the team must continue to build upon the momentum being created, but must also take the positives after coming back from 2-1 down to gain a point through a George Lapslie equaliser in the 68th minute against Cheltenham Town on Friday.

The centre-back admitted that the squad were frustrated to have not won the game, but focus must turn quickly to the Boxing Day game at Colchester.

Reflection on the performance:

You can feel it in the dressing room that the confidence is building, yes wd did not get the three points but it’s still a point, there are lots of players coming back from injury and it feels like the team is coming together.

They scored a worldie and sometimes you just have hold your hands up, in the second-half we go behind and it’s an annoying goal for us as we don’t usually concede that type of goal as a team. In the past we would have lost 2-1 but we were able to come back 2-2 and get a point. We were frustrated as we had a lot of chances but couldn't finish them off.

We are a good team, but we want to be a brilliant team and we are not far from it, we just have to keep pushing and pushing. Today was the best we played with the ball, we controlled the game completely, as a defence we felt comfortable.

The goals:

Elliott (Nevitt), who works his socks off, made a great back pass to Lappo (George Lapslie) who put it away and I'm delighted for him, he works hard, he is a good lad and a great professional who really deserves the goal.

I was right behind Brad (Dack) when he shot [in stoppage time], I thought it was going in and Priestfield would have erupted especially as Brad is a Gillingham boy.

Going forward:

The momentum is really starting to build now with two wins and a draw heading into Christmas, we're getting better as a team.

We have to take the positives and keep moving forward, it's the best we have played with the ball and we continue to learn. We can all feel the momentum building, we nearly have a fully fit squad which is exciting, I think we will be going into the Christmas period pretty confident and we will be trying to win every game.
