Max Ehmer to say Gills farewell

Max

The club's supporters will, this weekend, have the opportunity to say farewell and show their appreciation to Club Captain, Max Ehmer, who will be leaving MEMS Priestfield Stadium when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Max has made 439 appearances for the Gills, making his first while on loan from Queens Park Rangers in 2014 under the management of Peter Taylor. His short-term deal was extended twice and, at the end of that campaign, he penned a three-year deal at ME7 and stayed in Kent until the summer of 2020, before agreeing a deal with Bristol Rovers.

He spent a year the Memorial Stadium before returning to Gills under Steve Evans and has been an ever present in the heart of defence since then. He has worn the Captain's armband under a number of different managers, and only five people in the club's history have made more appearances than the centre-back.

He made his final appearance on March 15 against Accrington at the Wham Stadium, playing a key role in Max Clark's equaliser when he held off his man inside the box following a short free-kick, allowing the left-back a free shot at goal.

The 33-year-old will be presented to the supporters prior to kick-off on Saturday (2:45), and we invite you to say thank you for Max's services during his time at Priestfield.

Head of Recruitment, Andy Hessenthaler, said: "Max has been a quite incredible servant to this Football Club and to reach over 430 appearances, in the current climate at any club, is astonishing.

"He has been a consistent performer and has helped nurture some of the younger players in the group, but also leads by example. He goes with our very best wishes."

Everyone at Gillingham Football Club would like to thank Max for his services and we wish him well for the future.
