Gillingham v Newport County

Tuesday October 22, 2024

MEMS Priestfield Stadium

Sky Bet League Two

Kick-Off, 7.45pm

Team News:

Mark Bonner will likely have the same squad available to him as he did for Saturday’s game at Bradford. Elliott Nevitt is ruled out, as is Aaron Rowe and Bradley Dack (hamstrings).

Robbie McKenzie (knee) is making progress but this game may come too soon for him. Glenn Morris and Armani Little will also sit out.

Josh Andrews (quad) is getting closer for first-team consideration, but the weekend seems more likely.

As for Newport, they could welcome back Matt Baker to the squad who came through the Gills academy system. However, apart from Matt, it could well be the same team that were beaten by Chesterfield on Friday night.

Manager Comments:

Mark Bonner – “We will shape everybody up over the weekend and see what we can get out Tuesday.

“Whatever we do and whoever gets their chance, they will be ready to have a right go at the game, I'm sure and keep pushing us to get a positive result.”

Nelson Jardim [speaking after Friday’s defeat to Chesterfield]: "It hurts [the result]. It hurts the fans, it hurts the players. Everyone is suffering.

"The fans tried to help the team, during the second half we had the fans with us.

"Now it is about bouncing back which is what we are going to do on Tuesday."

Previous Meetings:

Since Newport County reformed in the summer of 1989, we have only ever met on five previous occasions and Gillingham have lost each time. One of those was a penalties defeat in the EFL Cup in August 2019 when the scores were level after 90 minutes (2-2).

The four subsequent league meetings have seen Newport win all of them, with Gills scoring just the one goal during those games.

Odds:

Gills win – 8/13

Draw – 14/5

Newport win – 15/4

Special bet: Tim Dieng to score first in a 3-1 win = 90/1
