Grimsby Town v Gillingham
Blundell Park
Sky Bet League Two
Tuesday January 28, 2025
Kick-Off, 7.45pm
Team News:
Asher Agbinone (back) and JJ Morgan (foot) will be assessed up until the last moment to see if they are fit enough to feature. Agbinone, on loan from Crystal Palace, missed the draw at Prenton Park while Morgan required treatment having been taken off in the second half at Tranmere.
Ethan Coleman (calf) should travel, but Conor Masterson is unlikely to be ready.
As for Grimsby, they may include new signing Darragh Burns following his move from MK Dons. Otherwise, it is likely to be a similar squad to the one that travelled to Barrow at the weekend.
The Mariners are also looking for their first win of the New Year, having lost three of their last four outings.
Manager Comments:
David Artell - “We have got better compared to this time last year, some things have progressed really quickly, and there are other things we haven’t even begun to address and need a lot of work still.
“I said after the last game that we’ve got to improve our mentality because we’ve only come back to win one game when we were behind this season, and that was against the bottom team."
John Coleman - “I know we can be better and we have to be better. If we're going to try and climb the league, we've got to perform.
“I think we are defending slightly better, but I'd like us to be a bit more attacking. I want to win games. That's two games I've played now and we haven't won."
Previous Meetings:
The clubs last met in the reverse fixture earlier this season when Grimsby took all three points from MEMS Priestfield Stadium following a 1-0 win. Last season the points were shared at ME7 in a 1-1 draw, with Grimsby clinching a comfortable 2-0 victory at home in September 2023.
In total the clubs have met on 41 occasions. Grimsby have the advantage in the head-to-head statistics with 18 wins to 12. Gillingham haven't won at Blundell Park since 2001.
