In 1963 when Sir Alf Ramsey was named as the new England Team Manager, he boldly predicted that ‘England will win the World Cup in 1966.'
Moving the clock forward three years to the year of 1966, World Cup fever took over all around the country, from the far north of the country in Middlesbrough, the Midlands of Aston Villa, right down to the South of the White City and the host venue of Wembley Stadium.
Who will ever forget that memorable and great day on the 30th July 1966 when England were crowed Champions of the World having defeated West Germany 4-2 after extra-time in the 1966 World Cup Final, and Alf Ramsey’s wise words of wisdom were proved right...England had won the World Cup!
Sir Geoff was the only man to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup Final until Frenchman Kylian Mbappe equalled the feat in the 2022 World Cup Final.
On the 27th March 2025, the last remaining member of the winning 1966 England World Cup Team, SIR GEOFF HURST, will be our guest speaker at the Club’s first Sporting Dinner of 2025, and this will present a memorable opportunity of coming along to listen to his many splendid memories of that great afternoon at Wembley in 1966, including his infamous second goal on whether the ball crossed over the goal line or not.
So why not come along and enjoy a World Cup Sporting Dinner which will mixed with some great funny stories, as well as some nostalgic ones too?
