Jonny Williams, who was awarded the Sponsors' 'Man of the Match' award was pleased for everybody associated with Gillingham Football Club following the 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon on Easter Monday.
Joe Gbode scored the winning goal, and Williams was thrilled for the Gills academy graduate, who he believes made a real difference when he came off the bench.
The atmosphere at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium was electric, and Williams believes that everyone is pulling in the same direction, something that is priceless in football.
Gillingham's next fixture is at home to Swindon on Saturday. The 31-year-old looked ahead to the game against one of his former clubs and managers.
Discussing the win...
I thought that the boys were brilliant today, to a man. I think that everyone played their part, staff included, with the game plan that they set out. To play against a really good side that are doing well in the league, I thought that the boys left everything out there and gave their all, and the fans responded. It was a really good Easter Monday.
I think the manager put our team out to go and play and play around them today. His last point before we went out was that we had to match their work rate and compete because they will give everything. They are going for promotion and at the moment, we are also giving everything. That is the least you expect when you step on the pitch, but the boys have really bought in, and we battled hard today. The class shone through.
We had some great moments and some great interchanges in play, and we were just lacking that final pass at times until we got the ball out to Hutts [Remeao Hutton], and he darted it inside. Dacky [Bradley Dack] has made a great run, and it was a perfectly weighted pass for Joe [Gbode] to step onto it, and it was some finish.
Praise for Joe Gbode...
It [the goal] was brilliant. I am really pleased for Joe, who works extremely hard for the team. He works hard in training and is really committed to doing his best for Gillingham and getting better. He is always learning and improving, willing to learn and listening. I am absolutely delighted for him. I thought that he made a real difference today. He scared them. We knew that he was our outlet, and I think their defenders will be happy to see the back of Joe. He was a real handful today.
He is a real asset to us, and we used him really well today. We played to his strengths, but he has bought in, and I can't praise him enough. He deserves everything that he gets, and I am delighted for him.
The atmosphere around the Football Club...
It's incredible. There were goosebumps. It was so loud at the end of the game today and throughout. When Joe scored, it was that feeling that you can't buy. When you score, it's even better, but even as a player, when you're part of a winning team, you just want everyone to do well. I feel like that's starting to get together now. I feel like everyone is pleased for everyone, and that's priceless.
Looking towards Swindon on Saturday...
I have played against them since I left. They have had a big turnaround this season. They started off poorly and recently, they have gone on a good run. I know that they lost today [Monday], but recently, they have turned their season around. They score a lot of goals, and they are a good side. It's going to be a tough battle, but the boys really enjoyed playing in that atmosphere today at Priestfield. It was brilliant, and we can't wait to get out there and play Swindon.
I think that we are all looking forward to it. It should be a really good game. They are a tough opponent, and I am playing against one of my ex-managers as well [Ian Holloway], so I am looking forward to the test.
We are in tomorrow [Tuesday]. Prepare, recover and no Easter eggs! That can wait two weeks!
