Jefferies, 22, came through the youth systems at Caerleon and Cardiff respectively prior to joining Newport County at the age of 14.

He signed scholarship forms at 16 and made his professional debut in an EFL Trophy tie against West Ham U21 in September 2019 at Rodney Parade. He joined Salisbury in the summer of 2020, but a yer later he was on the move again, this time to Brentford where he would captain the club’s `B` team.

At the end of the 2021-22 season, DJ was voted the `B` team’s “Player of the Year” and soon after signed a two-year contract with the Gills.
