WYCOMBE WANDERERS PREVIEW

Richard Day looks ahead to tomorrow's game

WYCOMBE WANDERERS v GILLINGHAM
npower League Two
Adams Park
Tuesday August 21 2012
Kick-off: 7.45pm

Team News -
Adam Birchall and Chris Whelpdale will both be assessed following training today.

We hope to have more team news from manager Martin Allen this afternoon but he has said the following earlier today - “I have watched the Bradford  game over the weekend and they put in a fantastic effort and at times you could say too much effort, they worked so hard and they really wanted to win.

“There is plenty of time to rest – the game finished here at ten to five on Saturday and we don’t start until 7.45 on Tuesday so that isn’t a problem.

“They all went swimming yesterday – I imagine they didn’t do a lot yesterday and we won’t be doing much today or tomorrow. Back to back games isn’t a problem, our players are as fit as butcher’s dogs and there is a lot of them champing to play so it might be the time to give others a chance too.”

The Chairboys look likely to be without left-back Charlie Dunne (knock) and striker Matt McClure (tendonitis of the knee) who both missed the trip to York at the weekend.

Colours -
Wycombe will be in their familiar sky and navy halved shirts with navy shorts and socks while the Gills are going to be wearing the red shirt with blue sleeves, white shorts and socks.

At the weekend -
While the Gills recorded a fine 3-1 triumph over Bradford City here at MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday thanks to two goals from Danny Kedwell and one from new signing Miles Weston, Gary Waddock’s side began the 2012-13 campaign with a 3-1 victory at Football League newcomers York City.

The Wycombe scorers at Bootham Crescent were Matt Bloomfield, Sam Wood, a 40-yard stunner, and Stuart Beavon.

The Wanderers line-up was: Bull, Stewart, Basey, Doherty (c), Johnson, Spring, Lewis, Bloomfield (Winfield 86), Grant (Oli 75), Wood, Beavon (Logan 93)  Unused subs: Harrison, Angol, Kewley-Graham, Hause.
