ADAM BARRETT SIGNS NEW CONTRACT

Gills captain Adam Barrett puts pen to paper on a new two year deal

Gills skipper Adam Barrett today put pen to paper on a two year contract extension that will keep him at Priestfield until the end of the 2014/15 season.

Commanding centre-half Adam has made a huge impact at the club since signing from Bournemouth in August and Chairman Paul Scally knows this is a great deal for the Gills, saying “It’s a massive signing.

“In the short time that Adam’s been with us he’s proven himself to be a leader both on and off the pitch. He’s been a character around the club and there is no doubt that everyone has benefited from him being in that back four as well.

“We’re absolutely delighted that he is going to be part of the team for the next two years, this season, plus another two, and let’s hope that we can go to the Championship with him because that where I think we can go and with players like Adam in the team , that’s where we will go.”

When asked to comment on Adam’s influence on the club the Chairman was quick to draw parallels to a former Gills great adding, “He’s a Guy Butters isn’t he? He’s slimmer and he’s faster and I’m sure Guy won’t mind me saying that buy Guy Butters was very much part of the fabric of this club.

“He was a great player to have in the dressing room and a great player to have on the pitch. Like Guy Butters, Adam Barrett gives 100% every time he pulls on the shirt and that is the sign of a true leader.

“I think a player like Adam is a shining example to all the youngsters that are coming through. He is a true professional and along with the other experienced players that we have at the club, he shows the youngsters how the game should be played.”
