BIRTHS...
1943Simon Royce - 1971
The 1964-65 campaign saw just one game played, away at Peterborough United but the following season he made 11 appearances before moving to Bournemouth in February 1966 after Cox had taken over at Dean Court the previous month.
He didn't make his debut until the November trip to Oxford United which turned out to be his only appearance of the season.
Rod came through the ranks at Portsmouth before following his former boss Freddie Cox to Priestfield in July 1963.
Rod Taylor-
The experienced goalkeeper played for a number of clubs, many on loan, but had his best spells with Southend United and QPR before moving to Priestfield initially on loan in April 2007.
He made his debut in the home game against Port Vale and, after making his move permanent, he went on to make a total of 109 appearances which included keeping a clean sheet at Wembley in the Play-Off Final against Shrewsbury Town.
In the summer of 2010 he rejected the offer of a goalkeeping coach role with the Gills to take up a similar role at Brentford.
