Transfers and other news on fellow League Two sides
Another week has passed towards the closure of the transfer window at 11pm on January 31. Here are the latest moves involving League Two clubs along with some ground news from both Accrington and Bristol Rovers.North West storage company Store First have agreed a stadium and shirt sponsorship deal with Accrington Stanley. The firm have signed a three-year, six-figure package that will see the ground renamed as the Store First Stadium.
Chris Hussey has returned to AFC Wimbledon after his contract at Coventry City was terminated by mutual consent. The 24-year-old left-back had moved to the Ricoh Arena from the Dons in October 2009.
Former Watford, Swindon and Norwich winger Anthony McNamee has agreed a short-term deal at Aldershot Town. The free agent had played at Blue Square Premier Macclesfield Town earlier this season. Meanwhile fellow wide-man Kieron Cadogan has extended his deal at the EBB Stadium until the end of the 2013-14 campaign. He had joined the Shots at the end of September after his Crystal Palace contract was terminated by mutual consent.
Barnet have taken young Crystal Palace forward Ibra Sekajja on a one-month loan. Earlier this season he made one appearance during a similar deal at League One Doncaster Rovers.
Ryan Dickson has moved from Southampton to Bradford City on loan until the end of the season. The 26-year-old defender has not featured for the Saints this season. The Bantams have also confirmed the signing of Kilmarnock defender Michael Nelson with the 32-year-old believed to have cost around £30,000. Derby County defender Tom Naylor has extended his loan at the Coral Windows Stadium for another month.
Bristol Rovers look likely to go ahead with plans for their new £40m, 21,700 capacity, UWE Stadium at Frenchay after councillors approved Sainsbury’s plans for their Memorial Stadium site. A planning officers’ report has been published recommending that proposals be granted for planning permission and the decision will now be referred to the Secretary of State. Meanwhile goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall has extended his loan spell with the Pirates until the summer.
Right-back Anthony O’Connor has extended his loan spell at Burton Albion from Blackburn Rovers for the rest of the season. The 20-year-old Irishman has made 27 appearances since arriving from Ewood Park in August.
MK Dons winger Jay O’Shea has signed an 18-month deal at Chesterfield after his contract at the Northamptonshire club was terminated by mutual consent. Another new face at the Proact Stadium is right-back Richard Brindley, the 19-year-old has moved from Blue Square South Chelmsford City in a deal until the end of the season.
Former AFC Bournemouth midfielder Mark Molesley, recently released by the Cherries, has joined Exeter City. The deal for the 31-year-old is believed to be for the remainder of the season.
Fleetwood Town have paid a club record fee, although undisclosed, for striker Jamille Matt from Blue Square Premier Kidderminster Harriers.
Forward Chris Holroyd, recently released by League One Preston, has joined Morecambe on a short term contract. This is the 26-year-old’s ninth club of his career having been on loan at Blue Square Premier Macclesfield Town earlier in the season.
There have been more new faces arriving at Plymouth Argyle since John Sheridan took over the manager’s job earlier this month. Defender’s Guy Branston and Anthony Charles have both moved to Home Park until the end of the season, Branston having spent the previous seven months at Aldershot while Charles has been released by Northampton Town. At the other end of the pitch Ipswich Town striker Ronan Murray has joined on loan for the remainder of the season while fellow forward Gozie Ugwu has arrived on a month’s loan from Reading. This follows the news that Northern Ireland international forward Warren Feeney may miss the next two months with an ankle injury.
Port Vale have signed Sheffield Wednesday defender Daniel Jones after the 26-year-old departed Hillsborough by mutual consent. He has moved to Vale Park on a contract until the end of the season.
Striker Terry Gornell has made his loan move from League One Shrewsbury Town to Rochdale a permanent one. An undisclosed fee has seen him re-join former Accrington boss John Coleman at Spotland on a deal until the end of the season.
Dagenham & Redbridge’s versatile Michael Spillane has made the short move to Southend United for an undisclosed fee. The initial deal for the 23-year-old is until the end of the season but with the option of another year.
QPR winger Bruno Andrade has had his loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers extended until the end of the season. The 19-year-old has scored twice in 17 appearances for the Chairboys so far.
