Here’s our round-up of the Gills third day of pre-season
Sky Sports News returned to MEMS Priestfield Stadium today for the third day of their access-all-areas coverage of The Gills pre-season preparations.Presenter Jane Dougall was on hand to interview Martin as he welcomed the youth and development team players back from their early morning 3.5 mile road run. The Gills boss explained how essential endurance running is to the modern game and that the experience will be of great benefit to the youngsters’ development towards senior football.
After completing their distance challenge the young players headed straight into the club’s newly refurbished gym to cool down and reduce the lactic acid in their systems.
Then Sky’s crew relocated to the first team dressing rooms where the senior players stripped off and climbed on the scales for their first weigh-in of the season. First team stars Myles Weston and Charlie Allen were interviewed and both were delighted to discover that they had gained muscle and lost body fat over the summer break.
After the morning’s training session at Beechings Cross, Jane joined the team for lunch, chatting with Stuart Nelson and Matt Fish on the importance of eating right and sticking to their prescribed diet plans, before the day ended with an exclusive one to one with Martin Allen in the Manager’s Office.
You can see more behind the scenes footage from Priestfield throughout the night on Sky Sports News and again tomorrow when the cameras follow us to our pre-season fixtures at Faversham Town (k.o.-1.00pm) and Ashford United (k.o.-3.00pm)
