Darren Hare looks forward to first round of FA Youth Cup
Darren Hare’s U18 side kick off their FA Youth Cup campaign this evening when they welcome Brentford to MEMS Priestfield in their first round tie.
For many of the players it will be their first outing on the main pitch, and although Darren is expecting a tricky game, he says his boys are ready for the challenge.
of December.thTalking to the club website he said: “We trained on Saturday morning; we managed to get Dagenham & Redbridge to cancel their game as they have a Youth Cup game aswell this week so we have rearranged that for the 7
“It gave me an opportunity do some work with the players and with the development squad, using them as guinea pigs.
“I feel like we have prepared properly; we know how we are going to play, we know it will be a very tough game but we also know that anything can happen in a cup tie.
“The only difference is that it’s on a different stage. For our boys it’s probably the biggest theatre they have played in so it’s important to focus 100% on perhaps walking out on Beechings Cross rather than the ground.
“For some it might tease a bit more out of them, but for others it might offer a bit of anxiety but I don’t think so with this group.
“This group of players will give us whatever they have got with and without the ball and I don’t see anybody getting frozen or stuck in the headlights.
“We will have a go; they are up for it and ready.”
The game is open to the general public with Adult tickets costing £4 and Concessions and Under 18’s tickets costing £2.
Kick-Off is at 7pm.
