DEFENDER JOINS ON LOAN

Championship defender joins the Gills on a 28 day loan deal

With Michael Harriman called up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for the forthcoming games against the Faroe Islands and Montengro, Peter Taylor has added to his defensive options with the signing of Elliott Hewitt from Ipswich Town.

A Wales Under-21 international right-back, 19 year-old Elliott came through Macclesfield Town’s youth system, making 25 league and cup appearances for the Silkmen before agreeing a three year contract with the Tractor Boys in May 2012.

He played eight times for Ipswich’s first team in 2012/13, played 45 minutes against the Gills in our pre-season friendly at Priestfield this summer and started this season as Mick McCarthy’s first choice right-back.

Elliot signs on an initial 28 day loan and can play against Sheffield United in Sky Bet League 1 this weekend, although he will not be eligible to play against Brackley Town in Monday night’s FA Cup with Budweiser First Round replay.
