JOE: "RESULTS WILL TURN"

Defender confident that Gills first win isn't far away

Joe Martin is convinced that it is just a matter of time before the Gills register their first win of the season.

Martin Allen’s side travel to Northampton at the weekend to take on Coventry City, who are unbeaten in their last five league games.

The Gills have only been beaten once in their last four outings themselves, and will be hoping the extra day of preparation they have had this week will result in another strong display.

He said: “It’s been a little bit different to the usual week; we have a bit longer to work on the game. We have another day of training and then we will be ready and set up for Sunday.

“The gaffer will set us up how he wants and we will then go home and relax and treat it as if it’s a Friday rather than a Saturday.

“They have some good players and have had a 10 point deduction and made it up quite quickly. We can beat anyone in this league though so it will be interesting.

“There are no easy games in this league but we have had particularly hard fixtures up until this point and Coventry will be another one.

“We have played well in the games but the results are not going our way so we need to find a way of turning them around, which we will do. It’s just a matter of time.

“If you look at the games it doesn’t tell the full story – at times we have just conceded late or not put away chances. All these things come and go in bursts so eventually it will turn around and it will be our time to start winning.”

Joe said that all clubs will have good and bad runs during any season, and said the situation can change in just one game should a positive result be achieved.

He said: “Sometimes you just have to win ugly to get you kick started and after one game it can all look different and we can start climbing the league.

“Fans pay their money so they want to see their team winning. It’s 11 v 11 – we know their weaknesses and we will try to exploit them.

“Sometimes you just have runs in football and you can’t quite explain it. The opposition is better but our team is better than it was so eventually it will turn.”
