TAYLOR: WE GOT BETTER AS THE GAME WENT ON

Peter Taylor reflects on the 2-0 win over Yeovil Town at MEMS Priestfield Stadium

It was the second time in five days that the Gills had overcome Gary Johnson’s men, with Joe Martin and Danny Kedwell getting the goals which clinched the club’s first points of the new season.

Speaking after the game Peter said: “I was pleased because, to be fair to Yeovil, they started a bit direct and positive.

“I felt that we didn’t have a good start. All of a sudden they get the penalty and thankfully we save it.

“But I felt the longer the game went on we got better and stronger.

“There were a few that didn’t do so well in the first half that came in at half time, held their hands up knowing they didn’t do so well but in the second half I thought they did well.

“We played a slightly different shape because, yes, we’ve got players who can play the shape but also because we haven’t got the wide men 90 minutes fit at the minute.

“I thought John Egan at the back was absolutely outstanding with the way he marshaled the defence.

“I said to the players after the game that the way Danny Kedwell chased around, he tries to make every bad ball a good one and tries to put them under pressure. We’ve all got to learn from that and if we do we’ll be a very difficult team to play against.”
