GFC Community Trust hosts ever popular Soccer Schools programme
Over the last week Gillingham Football Club have been out and about holding soccer schools in different areas across Kent.With the poor weather we have been having lately, last week seemed to brighten up and allow our sessions to take place in Gillingham, Rochester, Canterbury, Sittingbourne and Sheerness.
We were able to engage with a wide range of young players and fans to help develop football skills as well as having a fun place to go. Our GFC coaches put the children through their paces with a variety of heading, shooting, passing, dribbling skills as well as fun practices and matches.
To keep the fun atmosphere happening all day fun football Q&A quizzes were designed, as well as the popular lunch time dance off.
During the Soccer Schools some first team players attend to surprise the children and joined in with some of the sessions. In addition to that the boys posed for photographs, answered questions and signed autographs.
During the Q & A sessions the players were asked about the importance of education.
Bayo Akinfenwa discussed with the children that education is very important and that any young aspiring footballers still need to focus on their education and to continue to listen and learn from their coaches.
Adam Lawrence Head of Community stated: “The February half term Soccer Schools were a great success once more with over 300 young people joining us for some football fun at various venues.
"We were helped by the weather that certainly improved on the weeks leading up to half-term, and we were delighted that a good number of the first team squad came along to meet the young players.
"We hope that everyone who attended had a great time, and we look forward to seeing you all again in the Easter holidays.”
