JOE PIGOTT JOINS FROM CHARLTON

Gillingham have bolstered their striking options with the capture of Joe Pigott from Charlton

Peter Taylor has beaten the transfer deadline to secure the signing of highly rated young striker Joe Pigott from Charlton Athletic.

The 20 year-old forward, who hails from Maidstone, scored 22 goals for the Addicks development squad in 2012/13, as well as enjoying a successful loan spell with Skrill South side Bromley.

He made his Charlton debut in this season’s Capital One Cup first round tie with Oxford United, scoring a 90th minute penalty to help his side to a 4-0 win at the Valley.

Joe has since gone on to make 10 league and cup appearances for the South London club this season and was rewarded with a new three year deal in September.

Speaking about the move Peter Taylor said, "I enquired about Joe a few months ago but we couldn't do a deal at the time. He is a scorer, and he netted a hat-trick against us in a development game earlier this season. He lives in Maidstone and is desperate to come here and we are very pleased to have him."

Joe joins the Gills on an initial one month loan and is eligible to play in this weekend’s Sky Bet League 1 clash with Port Vale. Click the box below to buy your tickets now
