GILLINGHAM SIGN GARY BORROWDALE

Peter Taylor has completed the signing of experienced left-back Gary Borrowdale

With the transfer window set to clause in just 24 hours’ time Gillingham manager Peter Taylor has added valuable experience to his squad with signing of former Crystal Palace, Coventry City and Queens Park Rangers full-back Gary Borrowdale.

The 28 year-old left-back, who can also operate at centre-half, has been training with the Gills recently whilst improving his match fitness with spells at local non-league sides Tonbridge Angels and Margate.

He began his career at Crystal Palace, making over 100 first team appearances for the Selhurst Park side by the age of 21, and also earned England honours from Under-16 to Under-21 level before earning a £650,000 move to Coventry City in 2007.

Two seasons later he became Paulo Sousa’s first signing as Q.P.R. boss and also spent time on loan with Brighton & Hove Albion, Charlton Athletic and Carlisle United prior to leaving Loftus Road in the summer.

Gary has agreed a deal with the Gills that will keep him at the club for the remainder of the 2013/14 season with Peter Taylor saying, “When I was England Under-21 manager Gary played for me, he was also with me at Crystal Palace so that shows how high I regard him.”

“He’s only 28 and a very, very good player and it’s well worth getting him on our books. He won’t be ready for two to three weeks but we’ll get him fit and he can be a very good signing for us.”

Stay tuned for confirmation of a second signing at 5.00pm this evening.
