Former Gills striker to return the club in coaching capacity
Gillingham FC is delighted to announce that Steve Lovell will be returning to the club as Youth Coach.Lovell, who played for the club between 1987 and 1992, will be working under Academy Manager Darren Hare in helping to develop the current crop of youth players.
The former Welsh International is joining the staff at MEMS Priestfield Stadium for a second time, having had a spell as the club’s Football in the Community Officer a decade ago.
As a player he was deadly in front of goal, and quickly became a firm fans favourite for his natural scoring ability.
That raw talent saw him become the fourth highest scorer in the club’s history with only Brian Yeo, Brian Gibbs and Tony Cascarino surpassing his prolific tally of 104 goals in 275 games in all competitions.
He represented his country on six occasions between 1981 and 1986, eventually retiring in 2001 before taking up management roles at Ashford, Sittingbourne and Hastings United.
